Journal # 5
This chapter was very helpful as it showed the different format for outlines. I had no clue that there were different kinds. At least before reading the previous two chapters I knew that there were different types of speeches but was very shocked to find multiple outline forms. The difference between a working outline and a speaking outline is interesting because although I have already been making the working outline and then adjusting after my speech, I had no clue they were actually two separate things. I also discovered that when I make my outlines I usually use the phrase outline rather than the keyword. I feel like it is easier for me to use phrases because they help me remember more of the main point I am trying to share. I learned a lot about how to actually plan out the speaking points and especially the transitions. Looking at the example of the working outline will definitely help me plan out my future speeches better.
Journal # 6
This speech was a little bit more difficult than the previous two especially considering that my phone was leaning up against a hot oven and I didn’t have too many chances to retake the speech because if I did, I wouldn’t have had any food leftover to make. I think with this speech I knew the topic very well and through the speech, I believe I conveyed my knowledge of the subject well. However I was disappointed that there were a few moments where I went out of frame slightly to grab something or to put powdered sugar on the final product but there was nowhere else to put my phone and I was trying not to burn myself. I think I rushed the conclusion again which is the part of the speech that I have the most trouble with but am really trying to work on. I think I have the most problems with it because I don’t want to sound too repetitive to conclude with. I think at times I spoke a bit too fast but overall I believe the speech was fairly easy to follow and people could understand how to make crepes after watching the video.
