MY BEST ADVICE:

I really enjoyed your speech. It was personal and gave us a little bit of a peak into your life and tell us more about you as a person. I think some thing to work on is just trying on smoothing out your sentences so it sounds a bit more together or with less pauses. I know this all too well because I am working on this as well! Focus on talking like this is a (slightly formal) conversation with a friend rather than a class speech. Great job! I bet the final draft will be great

PEER REVIEW WEEK 2

WHY IT’S MY BEST ADVICE:

I think this was my best advice because it praised the speech while also suggesting ways to improve it. I thin the biggest thing that people get nervous about when doing these speeches is they seem them as stiff, formal, assignment but once you relax and treat it more like a conversation with a friend then the speech itself will smooth out and flow a flow better. I believe that if you have the mindset that something isn’t scary or nerve-wracking then you can trick yourself into believing it and you will actually feel so much better.

BEST ADVICE FROM A PEER

I really like how you described the object before even showing us what your meaningful object was. That really hooked me and I’m sure others in. One thing to work on would be pace of your speech and the length of it. Remember to keep it under 2 minutes. Slowing down your overall pace will allows others to really feel the emotion and get attached to the message more. Overall, you’re a great public speaker and I can see that you have had experience with this skill before. Great dry run!

TOri Boutin, WEEK 2

WHY IT IS THEIR BEST ADVICE

This is their best advice because it gave me encouragement for things I was already doing and that made me really happy. I was proud of how I had laid out the opening part of the speech so it helped me feel more confident in my final speech that my “hook” was actually interesting to watch and reeling people in. I also liked the criticism because it felt like friendly advice rather than just telling me what I did wrong. This helped me try and show the emotion and importance of my object by slowing down and making my speech so much better than it was at first.

MY BIGGEST STRIDES

Speech Number 3 Final: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jy8OeeE_6AY

I think I improved the most in week 3 speeches where we had to teach a skill. The dry-run was very all over the place, I was cooking while talking, there were so many objects in front of me and my brain was going a mile a minute. I think that I was frazzled a bit and that took away from the speech. I think in the final run, I was more collected and even during the ties when cooking took a bit longer, I found stuff to fill the space (2:57). I also think my eye contact was pretty good especially in the very beginning and even while i was mixing ingredients (1:33). All it took was some practicing, learning how to balance my camera on a hot stove, and rearranging the video a bit.
